REPORT Our monthly meetings have again been planned by our Program VP, Sharon McDougall. In September, we received an overview of the Reality Store Program that is sponsored by the local Business & Professional Women. We have participated in the program for many years, but we have so many new members, we thought an explanation was in order. It was provided by long time member Ellen Tadken. In October the Assistant City Manager, spoke to us about the many changes that are happening in our area....particularly, the airport under construction, adjacent roads and a new exit on I15 and the effect it will have on our area. Growth and its many problems were also discussed. In November, Donna Dillingham-Evans, Academic VP of Dixie State College filled us in on education (particularly of girls) in Utah and more specifically Washington county. She had put together some fascinating info. In December, the new administrator of Dove House, Katy Peterson, spoke to us of the needs of the areas abused women. I am proud to say, many of our members immediately opened their purses and made donations to help. January's meeting was aptly timed with a Personal Trainer, Wendy Hansen, reminding us of the need for us to eat right and exercise .... after the Holiday, many of us sat with guilty looks on our faces. In November we had our annual Author's Luncheon. It was held at the Bell Tower, where we now have our monthly meeting. It was an elegant Tea Luncheon .... heavily attended and made more than twice as much as we have raised before under leadership by Beverly Hill. I'm happy to report that most of the super committee that planned the Author's Luncheon has been busily planning the state convention (see separate report). I anticipate the convention will be just as grand as our Author's luncheon. Another dynamic duo is in charge of the planning for our first e-SMART (exploring science, math and related technologies) camp for girls. The camp is taking place at Dixie State College (they asked to be co-sponsors) July 28 &29. We will be relying heavily on volunteers this first year; there seem to be many people wanting to be involved. The co-chairs, Kayla KIoeber & Joan Schneebeli, are currently weeding through the list selecting those who sound like what we want .... providing classes that are creative, challenging, non-traditional, and FUN. There will also be recreational, teaming, and confidence/esteem building activities scheduled around the core classes. More later. Gloria Prahl |
